Kindly remember to use discretion in what you inform others of. We are ninja, after all. If you're spying, please don't talk about it on public filters--use a private, unhackable setup. If you need help with that setup, ask.
[PRIVATE TO Hughes, Minato, and anyone on the "Minato Community Squad" known to be unaffected by the event or in the body of a known ally // UNHACKABLE]
Sensei values the idea of community, and communities share and share alike, so, I'm providing you with information that may prove useful. I ask that you do the same, for myself and the others associated with this group. Due to the nature of this event, I have limited who I included in the filter.
And Alphonse, you may ask your friend the Colonel if he'll want to be included in future briefs.
In our ninja world, myself and most of my allies come from a village known as Konoha. Our other allies (Gaara and Temari, currently) are from Suna. Most of us wear headbands that designate our allegiance.Obviously, we also have enemies. The ones currently present are the Akatsuki. I have not had much experience with the particular ninja who are here, except Itachi, but what I do know I can provide here in as briefest a form as possible. Any questions, ask.
Uchiha Madara | A former leader of the Uchiha clan, the family from which Obito, Sasuke, and Itachi are also from. Extremely dangerous and skilled. Possesses the Sharingan (as do all our Uchiha here), time-space jutsu (unique to Madara), and powers otherwise unknown. I'm not sure about his level of sanity, either, but he has a vendetta against Konoha and an interest in Sasuke, Obito, and all who Itachi has associated with.
Uchiha Itachi | At present, I honestly think Itachi's one of the least of our worries. His issues pertain mostly to the Elrics, my students, and myself. We probably have more to worry about with
Pain | Itachi refers to him as "Leader-Sama." If not for Madara's apparent influence here, I'd believe he was the leader of Akatsuki. He is probably very powerful and was behind the attack on Konoha. Regarded as a god in Amegakure. Powers unknown.
Konan | Konan uses a paper jutsu, origami--or so I have heard--as her weapon. She stays by Pain's side and is very polite.
One of my allies was unfortunate enough to wake up in the body of Dr. Horrible, so we took advantage of that to examine his laboratory. This is what Anko found:
- freeze ray
- blue prints for various unfinished inventions
- copies of the blueprints of the inner city with handwritten notations
- a jet pack
- a short term energy shield
I suspect the inner city blueprints have something to do with Carmen's plan, which means this doctor may be working with her.
He also has a generator in the lab with just enough capacity to power his building. The other basic necessities: a bed, a small table with a lamp and a framed picture of a red-haired girl.

Date: 2009-05-07 05:45 am (UTC)Mr. Kakashi, I have additional information about the backgrounds and abilities of some of these people, as well as history.
However, I am not sure whether it would do more harm than good to share it.
And who would believe me.I firmly believe that Itachi will take no direct action on his own, but I know he'll take orders without question, even if it's to harm those he used to consider his friends. However, he'll apply however much force he needs and nothing more. He by no means shouldn't be considered dangerous. We've all seen just how far he's willing to go to harm people.
... if you come up against Itachi, please avoid direct blows to his chest, if he even presents enough of a weakness to allow you that close.
If needed, I have information on a few of Itachi's forms of attack, though I know what he's shown me isn't anywhere near close to what all he's capable of.
As for the Inner City plan, I've already stationed myself as part of the team. I think it would be a good idea to have more of "us" inside, if only to keep down casualties and possibly figure out what they're up to. I admit I have my own reasons for going along, but the more of us spread through the ranks, the more we'll figure out just what everyone's really up to in there, if anything.

Date: 2009-05-07 05:58 am (UTC)No, I agree with you. Itachi's not nearly as much of a threat as the other Akatsuki are. Various factors go into that. But he is still a threat because of his allegiance to that group, so we have to be careful around him and know about his skills.
I know some of them quite well--both from serving with him in ANBU and from first-hand experience. He specializes in genjutsu, or the art of illusion, and is highly proficient in hand-to-hand combat and ninja arts. But anything else you know about his skills, especially that may provide insight into his sensei's powers, would be useful.
And agreed. I'd like to keep an eye on Carmen anyway--she's particularly interested in a friend of mine, so I'd like to follow along. Regardless of Carmen's intentions, or those of the overall group, I have no doubt someone in that mob is up to something, and not simply looking for a ticket home or a chance to confront the scientists.

Date: 2009-05-07 06:33 am (UTC)As for plans in the Inner City... I don't want to pass judgment on what they may or may not be up to. But if the secrets of how this world was formed pass into the wrong hands, I think they may use it to somehow figure out how to create more of and/or control the existing Animus, or worse, figure out how to pull in allies, or trap certain people here permanently while they go back and create havoc in their respective worlds. The possibilities are endless and terrifying. I just hope I'm wrong.
I wish so much that Itachi were on our side.
There is... one thing, that I have to tell you.
Since he's been gone I've looked over our old conversations a bit to clear my head and my memories, and that... he mentioned Madara then. And he said something else that I didn't connect at the time, but it disturbed me, going back over it again.
[Al flicks on the PCD, and Itachi's voice plays, soft and serious.]
"... the leader of the Senjuu at the time was a man who could control the bijuu--powerful demons of chakra and malice. But the man who led the Uchiha could control the most powerful of these demons, the nine-tailed demon fox, or the kyuubi. As a tangent, both Sasuke and I share this power with that man, but it comes with a price.
To continue.
The Senjuu and the Uchiha eventually formed an alliance, and founded the first ninja village, Konoha. Their example was followed and eventually the world stabilized with clear power distribution and borders--though war is always a part of human nature, at least the chaos was not so bad.
But there was a conflict between Uchiha Madara--the leader of the Uchiha at the time--and the Senjuu leader, Hashirama. Madara was paranoid and delusional, he wanted to seize power, and he opposed the alliance and the Senjuu leader becoming the Hokage--village leader of Konoha. However Hashirama did become Hokage, and Madara left, enraged and vengeful. He returned later, attacking the village and his own clan with the kyuubi--the Hokage faced him and killed him, or so everyone believed.
But he wasn't dead. He merely retreated, biding his time for his revenge. He formed the organization of Akatsuki in secret, among other things, waiting for his chance.
Sixteen years ago he set the kyuubi on Konoha a second time. Now, the first attack had left a rift between Senjuu and Uchiha, the Uchiha had been given control of the military police--but they still were not the main power within the village. The second attack left the rest of the village and especially the council paranoid that the Uchiha had been behind the kyuubi attack, and the Uchiha were segregated and isolated within the village after the massacre of the second attack..."
I swear I've heard the word "kyuubi" before, but I can't place it...

Date: 2009-05-07 07:49 am (UTC)Madara doesn't seem quite insane to me. Evil, yes, twisted, yes, but not insane. He has his quirks and oddities, though. Itachi calls him "sensei" and I know something of deep-seated grudges between old clans that only he remembers. Madara's impossibly old. I don't know just how old, but at least over a hundred years. At the very least he'll seek to use Sasuke like he's using Itachi. We can't let that happen.
Pain, despite not being... quite as powerful, though I can only guess, actually scares me more than Madara.
Because... he's a madman. He believes himself to be a God of Peace. And worse, he believes himself to be good, and in the right. He's twisted and dangerous and if I didn't know better I'd consider it an elaborate ploy. But he's all the more dangerous because he doesn't believe he's evil. He truly believes he's good, and that he'll deliver people into true peace and justice through "giving them pain".
He says that people have to lose everything, to "understand".
However, to be able to lead individuals like the Akatsuki, his madness might be a strength rather than a hindrance. He's powerful enough to command Itachi and the others, and smart enough to do so. He's probably got a hundred tricks none of us know about.
I could be wrong about any of this, though. This is just my observation.

Date: 2009-05-07 08:03 am (UTC)That's a lot of information on the people from your world. Thank you. There's no one currently from ours that's caused trouble, but if some do show up, I or another from our home will inform the group.
Blueprints? I didn't go to the meeting, unfortunately, but I did hear she had some. Did she say how she got them, or did she allow people to make copies?
The red-headed girl. Would that be Penny? There was a woman in the city for a time that he seemed very interested in. [Maes sends a picture of Penny through the video feed.]

Date: 2009-05-07 08:11 am (UTC)No copies, and PCD's weren't allowed near the blueprints. I have a semi-copy from a sketch I did on my own from memory once I got home from the meeting. It may not be completely accurate in distances, details and notes but I have a good memory for lines.
Are you planning on coming, Maes?

Date: 2009-05-07 08:23 am (UTC)I'm not. I can't justify doing something that falls more under the lines of frivolous and might get me killed when my daughter is here. And Daddy promised his pumpkin that in a couple of weeks they'll paint her room, and it's going to take that long to find supplies! I have nothing to go back for. You know that. I'll do whatever I can in this city, but I don't need to buy trouble and wind up landing back home.

Date: 2009-05-07 03:30 pm (UTC)In my world, Carmen Sandiego is a fictional character that only exists through a television show directed at children. She was a detective who grew tired of capturing criminals and decided it would be far more of a challenge to defy the very organization she used to work for. Thus she left and formed her own organization and made a living stealing landmarks, time periods, anything that was a challenge for her.
She's fast, strong, and very intelligent. She's also charismatic and I do not doubt she has a network here of people working for her and people who trust and believe what she says.
While I do not doubt there is a great purpose behind the attack on the city center, it may be nothing more than a challenge for her. And I doubt she'll care too much about anyone who may get left behind or killed that isn't in her immediate group, if there is an immediate group.
I was at the meeting where she proposed her plans for the attack on the city center. She said she had blueprints of the city. If Dr. Horrible has blueprints of the city as well, I believe there is a connection that cannot be ignored as she was taking great pains to make sure no pictures or recordings were taken for security reasons.
[Same filter]
Date: 2009-05-08 03:34 am (UTC)It's exactly that "challenge" mentality that makes her dangerous and unpredictable. Even if she won't use what she finds, perhaps she is willing to give it up to whomever offers her the most in exchange for it once the "game" of capturing information ends. Or perhaps she'll hold onto it. There are different brands of thieves. No telling what her exact goal is once the challenge is over, or to what end she'll use her spoils. Or who will get left behind in the wake.
So at this point we know--or can reasonably surmise--that Dr. Horrible and Carmen are together on this, but that's it. Unfortunately, not knowing anything about Horrible's allegiances here, we can't even begin to guess who else, if anyone, might be within Carmen's group. It'd be better if we knew who we could trust going into there.
[Same filter]
Date: 2009-05-08 03:52 am (UTC)Did we expect her to be predictable? She's stayed separate from most people. What's the chance of us getting someone on the 'inside' with her? Or whats the chance of her honestly answering questions put to her?
We know there's a connection. We can't quantify it yet, but one person has the blueprints she wasn't sharing with anyone. We need to figure out an angle to approach this and them from.

Date: 2009-05-08 07:37 am (UTC)I believe that I have come to know Itachi-san a lot better than most people here by being his medic. I am keeping a constant track on him and his energy for medical purposes, and I can locate him if need be ... unless he takes advantage of such an event where I do not have access to my abilities.
From my world, I suspect Kurotsuchi Mayuri could be a big threat.
I do not want you to misunderstand him as being evil. If that was the case, he would not have become a captain in the Gotei 13. His only interest is in scince and research. Good and evil are notions that simply do not interest him, and he has very little regard for life in general so long as it does not pertain to him.
I certainly do not condone all of his actions, and here I have a way of stopping some of them, but I have no actual authority over him but that which he begrundgingly recognizes in the face of his research being threatened.
Apart fromt hat, most of my fellow Captains and other shinigami are potential allies.
